Girls In Scratch
“Girls in Scratch” is a 2-day coding event for elementary school girls (2nd - 5th grade). The program focuses on providing a hands-on, introductory coding experience for young girls. Girls are particularly of interest for GSEI Girls in Scratch, as they are often under-targeted for coding events and overall underrepresented in the computer science space. Scratch, a drag-and-drop programming language, will be used throughout the two days. The first day will be an interactive lab where students will learn the basic functionalities of Scratch. Students will also learn the basics of programming logic including variables, control structures, and functional programming. The second day will be application based in which students will create 1-2 guided projects with help from mentors. This program provides an educational, scientific experience to students and further promotes diversity in computer science.

Emory SPLASH
Emory Splash is a day-long event where middle and high school students have the opportunity to take a variety of STEM-related classes taught by Emory students. Classes are typically 45 minutes long and will cover a wide range of topics—from the physics of Angry Birds to the biochemistry of sports! After classes, students have the opportunity to ask college students questions about the college application process and to take an informal tour of Emory's campus. Lunch is provided to the students free of charge!
