Fall 2026 Application for Data Detectives After-School Program

A 6-week after-school program at either Stone Mountain Middle School or Druid Hill Middle School that runs from the week of September 28th through November 16th (excluding the week of Dekalb Schools fall break the week of October 5th). Students meet once a week, after school from 4:30-6pm (at Druid Hills Middle School on Wednesdays and at Stone Mountain Middle School on Thursdays).

The Data Detectives program focuses on using data science to understand cancer and to look at cancer as a community health problem. Students learn about how cancer develops, how to use graphs, data, and AI to research info about cancer, and presentation skills. They spend time looking at cancer data on government websites and also think about cancer as a community health problem. Undergraduate students from Emory University lead the teaching of the program.
