Data Detectives Afterschool Program
The Data Detectives Afterschool Program is a six-week program in which Emory University students teach content in oncology, biology, data science and research to students at select middle schools. Students have the opportunity to be exposed to collegiate science concepts and develop their skills in communicating STEM ideas and generating solutions to modern public health and community medical issues. This program allows students to form relationships with their peers and college students to share in a passion for science.

How the Afterschool Program Works
Georgia Science Education Initiative selects two schools each semester to host the program. Once a week, following the conclusion of the school day, students will meet in a classroom with their Emory mentors as a large group. The beginning of the program guides students through a series of lectures and discussions to establish a empirical foundation. They will then apply the knowledge by designing a project on a community-level problem and how it impacts cancer development.
Presently, only students of the host school are invited to participate.
